This is a part of my culinary adventures during summertime in Greece. I feel so lucky being able to enjoy my holidays in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. And the food is just amazing!

Some people call me crazy, some tell me that it’s so boring spending my summer holidays in the same place every year. It’s true that there are so many places around the world to visit that a life time is not enough. Even so, wherever I live, I go for 2-3 weeks back to my home country. It’s not only the nostalgia but you cannot really beat spending some time on a gorgeous beach eating fresh fish food and drinking Ouzo!

I started my journey this year by visiting my sister who is working on an island called Evia. I stayed in a hotel very close to a fishermen’s village called “Agios Georgios”. There is a tavern there, called “Stella”, that serves fresh fish and other local delicacies while your feet are getting wet by the sea.

My sister is a close friend with Stella, the owner, and she asked her to prepare spaghetti with langustines for us. You can see the photo. Unbelievable! The pasta were cooked in the juices of the fresh langustines and the fresh tomato sauce was just amazing!

Another delicacy that I totally miss where I live is the Greek street food “Souvlaki”. It’s simply grilled pork pieces wrapped in gorgeous pitta bread and filled with tomatoes, tzatziki and onion. The pitta bread makes all the difference. Too bad you can find it only in Greece.

My next stop was at my parent’s place, in Peloponnese. They have a house close to the beach where I spent every summer during my childhood. Of course, I visit them every year. It’s like staying in a resort for free.

Greece

My father is a huge fan of seafood. He is very proud about a recipe he learned from a local fisherman. It’s a cuttlefish stew with fresh tomatoes and spring onions. I have to admit that it doesn’t look very appetising in the photo. Probably you wouldn’t order it in a restaurant yourself, sounds strange, right? Well, big mistake, the flavours are unbelievable and the whole dish is a representative of fine Greek cuisine. Fresh from the sea on your plate!

That’s it for the moment. I promise that I will give you an update of my latest adventures in my next post.

Until then…”Gia mas”!
